“Let’s Talk About It” with Trina Braxton

Porshelly readers, just like us, we know you have been missing the Braxton’s on WE tv. So we just had to catch up with Trina to discuss what’s new and if we can expect an upcoming season of Braxton Family Values. Porshelly sat down with the outspoken and sassy, Ms. Trina Braxton, to discuss her music and all things Braxton and let me just say right off the bat that she is exactly who you think she is! She is the same outspoken, funny, "cute or keep it on mute" type of person that you get to see on the BVF. 

Trina Braxton, mother, wife, musician and reality star has now stepped on the scene as a solo artist. She wants the world to know that she is stepping out of the R&B box and giving us a new genre of music. Trina has all of us moving and grooving to the hit song, “Party or Go Home,” Trina has proven to be a promising artist in her own right. If you haven’t already heard it, click here to listen to hear Party or Go Home. Stay tuned because she is currently working on her new EP. The title track is tentatively called "All My Life".

For all those who feel as if Trina had it easy breaking into the music industry because Toni Braxton is her sister, think again. As Trina said it’s a gift and a curse. The down side is that the comparisons to Toni are inevitable. Some expect her to sound like Toni while other may be disappointed that she doesn't sound like Toni. However, the flipside is that she has good “in-house” musical/business advice from Toni. Toni has imparted invaluable advise as far as the do's and the don'ts of the music business.

But what’s up with Trina and “the band” you may ask?

Well this is a PORSHELLY EXCLUSIVE: Trina Braxton is no longer with the band. After watching herself on TV she was able to see herself from another perspective and realizes that it was time for her to venture out on her own. And NO! Gabe was not behind the decision. 

What separates Braxton Family Values from all other reality TV?

As you all are aware African American reality TV has been getting negative feedback based on fighting and constant drama. When asked her opinion on the matter she made it very clear that it’s not just black women, fighting on reality television has become the norm amongst all denominations, races and creeds. She stated that of course there will be disagreements because that's just human nature but she draws the line at physical violence. Trina says that the purpose of other reality TV shows is entertainment and that the characters who are casted have a filming/network relationship only. These women are thrust into a situation where they are forced to be around other women with whom they have no history with unlike the Braxtons who are sisters and support each other unconditionally. 

The Braxton’s they are all about family. To put it in Trina's words, will they fuss? “UH YEAHHHH” will they verbal altercations? “UH YEAHHHH” continue to?, “UH YEAHHHH” but at the end of the day they are family first and they love and support each other dearly. 

Are Any other the sisters jealous of one another due to the show’s success?

If you think any of the sisters are jealous of younger sister Tamar because she seemed to be the break out star, you betta #Getchyolife. Truth is none of them felt that way at all, fictional drama! As Trina told us, all of them were break out stars in their own right and as a matter of fact made WE tv history as the first #1 rated show on WE tv. (Hellloooo!)This kind of family unity is shown throughout the series and it’s the main reason why we and everyone else watch!

We tried to get out of the gorgeous singer when and if the series will continue but we could not. She neither confirmed nor denied whether or not there would be a season two (but hinted that we should stay tuned to We tv**wink wink**) ….. hmmmm……We asked if the Braxton’s do return, what should we expect and she said that this time around we could expect to get a more in-depth glimpse into the day to day life of the sisters and their respective families.

Porshelly readers you know we had to hit you with a special little treat, just because we love you! We had to ask the question that you’ve all been dying to know…. What’s going on with Trina and Gabe? Well the answer is…. DRUM ROLL PLEASE….. She doesn’t know! Trina says she is still deeply in love with Gabe and everybody makes mistakes in life, it’s up to you and only you if you are willing to forgive and move on. 


When pressed on the issue Trina was very candid as only Trina could be, “Can I say something” asked Trina…. “Evvvvvverrrrrryyyybody has baggage! Evvvvvverrrrrryyyybody!!”  Everyone is always so quick to say oh you should do this or that but the bottom line is… it is HER decision at the end of the day, period.  In her words, "It's easy to give up but it's hard as hell to work through it, get through it, cry through it, fight through it". Yes indeed it is Trina but we know you'll make the right decision for you. I know many of ya'll are picturing Tamar side eyeing this last sentence? LOL

Bottom line we know they are still “getting it in.” wink wink* Nonetheless we are rooting for these two because the history is there and you can see clearly on screen that both of them are hurt and are willing to try to work it out because they both do love each other.

Speaking on what she has “done” you know we had to ask about the giving and not receiving, transaction with no merchandise situation.

We were very clear with Trina, we looooove her but we just could not understand how she can give top top without no pop pop.  We were prepared for her to shut us down after this question but Trina made it clear that she is not scared AT-TALL to talk about anything she has done or her relationship because if she is going to put it out there then she might as well talk about it! 


Well for all of you inquiring minds she says that being the giver put her in a position of power. She felt very in control of that particular situation whereas she felt a complete lack of control with what was going on between her and Gabe. We gave her plenty of outs to this question by providing multiple choice answers but she did not take the easy route and gave us a real straight from the heart answer and we respect her for that. Honestly, with all Gabe has done to her many would say that she was completely justified in her sinlge act of indiscretion but Trina stopped us and gave us one to grow on, she said "There is no justification for reciprocation".

The youth today need to know the importance of academia because your talents in life (basketball and etc.) can only get you but so far. Academics are something that no one can ever take away from you. As many of you may know Trina recently earned a degree in business so she is leading by example.

Don't wait around for any invites to  Miss E and Doc's wedding because it ain't gonna happen. Apparently, Miss E is very much enjoying the single life and I can't be mad at that. I'm sure Doc is somewhere waiting patiently for Miss E to change her mind.
